Pirate hats are a lot of fun to make! I made a pirate owl hat recently and it has sparked off a bit of a trend! I was asked to make a pair of pirate hats for two pirate-mad bothers and to make another pirate owl hat for an owl-loving little boy!
The brothers wanted something that was different but still went together so I sat down and designed a pirate hat version of my favorite sock monkey hat. This little monkey has a red and white striped bandana and obviously an eye patch! I added some blue trim to the edge of the hat to bring in a splash of color and it is the same blue as the owl’s eye to add to the feeling of a ‘match’. And so the brothers have a pair of pirate hats – one monkey and one owl!
Here are the two pirate owl hats together – don’t they look cute?
All of the hats have been shipped and it’s a good job because tomorrow, 19 September, is ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’. Really! Tomorrow you should be prepared to spend the whole day partying like a pirate! 🙂
Pirate hats aren’t the only special commissions I do. I found a photo of a pair of purple stripe owl hats I made last year for some twins when I was tidying up some virtual filing. It’s not a great photo but it made me smile to see it again.
All of my hats are handmade using high quality cotton yarns and can of course be made as big (or small) as required and in lots of different color combinations! I sell a pink owl, a hot pink and turquoise owl and a blue owl from stock and I can make other colors to order. If you would like to order a special owl hat please email me at millie@rubyandcustard.com or check out my FAQs. Children’s hats are priced at £19 each and all orders placed through this website/by email have free UK postage and packing and free gift wrap if you would like it!
But…this year I wont be accepting any more commission orders from 25th October (at the latest!) as I am having another baby and I think I might be a bit busy for a few weeks! So, if you have got something in mind, please do get in touch soon as if my order book gets too full I will have to close it earlier…! Sorry!
