Baby bird hat finished! Phew!
I was asked if I could make a hat for a little girl whose nickname is ‘Birdie’ and at the time I had 2 weeks before my due date and I was so confident that I wasn’t going to get an early arrival that I jumped at the chance and designed something a bit different…and of course brand new baby Custard arrived early! So, I’m really sorry that you have had a little delay Birdie but here is your hat!
The exact brief was to create a baby bird hat that wasn’t an owl. I do lots and lots of owl hats
and I love doing different colors and styles – blocks of colors and stripes included – but I liked the idea of creating a bird that was a bit different. So I took the main elements of my owl hats and swapped them for the opposite – big eyes have become little, a small flower has become a big flower detail, 2 ears have become one feather ‘plume’ and so on. What do you think?
I particularly love the flower detail down one side of the hat – I wanted to do a real statement – there is one super-sized flower and three smaller flowers as well as a couple of leaves for contrast. And of course a few buttons, because I just love them!
I really enjoy taking commissions so if you have an idea for a hat, or for anything else please get in touch. For each commission I will usually draw a sketch so you can see what type of thing I am trying to produce and make any alterations of course you get to choose co lours and details.

I am pulling together a Pinterest board at the minute with some of the examples of my work so you can see what other creations I have done 🙂
Commission hats are priced based on the complexity of the design and therefore the time they take to make and also the amount of yarn used. Prices start from £19.
But the arrival of baby Custard does mean that there is currently a bit of a delay on commissions and it is unlikely I will be able to do more before Christmas – sorry!
