A handmade, personalized crochet crown hat! In the week that Prince George was christened I was working on a very regal hat design for a little boy with an equally royal name, Edward. It’s a crown hat based on my popular crown designs but turned into a proper hat!
It has a faux ‘ermine’ trim at the base, a row of jewel-encrusted decoration, before rising to a regal purple top which is slightly puffy to emulate the velvet of a real crown. All in crochet obviously and this crown hat features an embroidered E for Edward.
The buttons on the hat are particularly special and were supplied to go with the hat. Apart from a few mother of pearl shell buttons (supplied by me) they are all handmade, ceramic buttons by Mary Goldberg for Stockwell Ceramics. They are just beautiful – the colors are so vibrant!
I really enjoyed this project as it was a bit of a challenge to get the hat shape to work as I didn’t want to just do a standard beanie hat with a trim. The purple part is taller than a standard hat and a different shape – more square – although you can’t really see in this photo.
I had a play with the original design of the crowns and worked out how the decoration could look but the actual crown hat part was a bit trial and error and until I got there 🙂
I’m really pleased with it and I do hope that Edward likes his crown hat!
