A crochet nursery cushion for a very special friend.
I’ve recently finished a cushion to decorate the nursery of a lovely friend who is expecting a baby any day now. She has just decorated the nursery using Mama’s and Papa’s Timbuktales range which features a lovely colour palette of taupe, limes and turquoises with splashes of bright colours mixed in. It’s a unisex scheme as she is having a ‘surprise’ and she has picked up on the turquoise and lime colours in particular.
It’s a really beautiful colour scheme and I thought that I could make her something for the chair in the nursery to match.
I used the brilliant Flowers in the Snow crochet pattern which is available for free on this beautiful blog. It’s a brilliant pattern with an excellent tutorial and I’ve used to several times before, including for the crochet bolster cushion (ahem, still not quite finished…!) I used a different joining technique to the one suggested and single crocheted each square together rather than joining as I went because I wanted achieve a closer weave.
I used cream fleece for the cushion backing as it gives the cushion a lovely cuddly feel.
My crochet nursery cushion has a simple envelope style back for easy removing and washing – babies do not respect delicate soft furnishings in my experience! But to give it a more polished look I crocheted a contrast edging using this technique from Attic 24. The version suggested using an old sweater would be a lot easier than the fleece as it was very hard work getting the needle through the fabric, but I didn’t have an old cream sweater!
I’m really pleased with it and my friend was thrilled. Now we just have to wait for the new arrival to take up residence in the nursery 🙂
