Crochet wedding headband – part one

A couple of weeks ago I received a really exciting inquiry from someone to see if I could make something they had seen in a photo on Pinterest – a crochet bridal/ wedding headband.  Isn’t it beautiful?  It is a very delicate crochet flower and leaves, mixed with feather biots, net and seed pearls on a headband.  Just beautiful.  And definitely something I would love to make!

They had managed to track the image back to an American magazine called Crochet Today where it had been featured as a pattern in the printed May/June 2010 edition. With a bit of digging I managed to establish that the magazine was out of print and I had almost resolved to use the image to rewrite the pattern when I decided to check the eBook section of the publisher, Future Publishing USA’s website and of course they now do an eBook version! Hurray!

The thread suggested in the pattern is Aunt Lydia’s Classic Crochet Thread, a size 10 cotton but it only seems to be available in the US. So, knowing the dress it needs to match is ivory I set off to find the best alternative possible.

The best I have found are DMC Babylo in Ecru, Puppets size 10 in Pale Cream and Puppets size 10 in Cream.  All available from Purplelinda Crafts – one of the best resources for crochet materials in the UK.

The photos on this page don’t really do the thread colors justice – they are actually very similar in real life  – they look noticeably different here but they really aren’t!

It’s so exciting to be making something for such a special occasion.  I know that a lot of my crochet daisy and rose flower headbands for babies and children are used at Christenings and for flower girls and bridesmaids but to think that something I am making will be worn by a bride is amazing.  It’s a real responsibility but I am just itching to get started!
