A newborn owl hat for a surprise!

When you are pregnant one of the big decisions is whether or not to find out if you are having a boy or a girl – it’s a completely personal choice.  I decided to find out – I was so excited that I couldn’t wait to ‘know’. But, I also love the excitement of finding out when the new little person arrives!!

Colour choice for a ‘surprise’ can be tough. Cream….grey….white….well yes, that is in fact a safe option. But you can inject a bit of colour!  this newborn owl hat is made in soft cream and lovely sage green stripes.  Unisex! The cream cotton yarn is super soft and the fabulous soft green is a brushed cotton so extra cuddly.

I love doing newborn size hats – the tiny size is actually much harder than larger sizes – the proportions change considerably and it can become fiddly.  But I love it.  Baby Custard seems to be growing before my eyes and it is so lovely to remind myself of how little newborn babies actually are! I also think there is something a bit special about the newborn size, it means the baby can wear it straight away – perhaps on the way home from hospital.  Tiny fingers, tiny toes and a little head needing to be kept cosy 🙂
